Back at Rarity's boutique, Rarity seems to be lost in thought, though a gleeful smile spoiled what her thoughts were as she dusted aimlessly.
"Let's see, what else could use sprucing up...?" Rarity mumbled as she inspected her home.
Suddenly a knock came at Rarity's door.
"Rarity? It's me Twilight, can I come in?" Twilight asked from the other side of the door.
Rarity jumped at the knock, but calmed herself after hearing her dear friends voice. "Oh, Twilight, you startled me." Rarity replied as she opened the door to allow the purple unicorn in.
"Thanks Rarity, I wanted to ask if you've seen Shad-I mean, Goldheart around today?" Twilight asked as she entered.
"Why yes, he's out running an errand... he shouldn't be too long, why do you ask?" Rarity enquired.
Twilight looked away for a moment. "Well...Princess Celestia asked me to find out more about him, I wondered if he was still in town...Rarity, you say he 'shouldn't be too long'...you sound like he's...coming back here?"
"Well, he's staying the night you see, I offered after hearing he needed somewhere to spend the evening." Rarity replied.
Twilight thought for a moment. "Did...Goldheart tell you much about himself...oh what am I saying?" Twilight asked herself. "I mean, what're the chances that he told you so much about...then again you trust him enough to let him stay the night...Rarity, what DO you know about Sha-I mean, Goldheart?"
"What has you so curious Twilight?" Rarity asked.
"Nothing. Like I just said, Princess Celestia gave me this task to find out more about Shado-I mean Goldheart." Twilight replied.
"Well...Goldheart told me that he runs an orphanage in Detrot, and a little about his childhood...but not much other than that." Rarity responded, with a questioning expression.
"Not much? That's quite a lot...he must really be fond of you Rarity." Twilight added with a knowing smile.
"I...I have no idea what your talking about..." Rarity stated as she looked away, unable to hold back a smirk.
Twilight let out a small giggle. "Well if you find out more about Goldheart, you'll tellme right? I mean...the Princess was acting very strange when I asked her why she gave me this task...it was almost as if she didn't know why herself..."
"That is very curious, Goldheart is a perfectly civil gentlecolt, well perhaps not whilst under Discord's influence, but we've all been there, I don't see why the princess feels the need to have Goldheart investigated." Rarity stated pondering as she rubbed her chin.
Twilight pondered for a moment herself. "Well, thanks in any case Rarity, be sure to tell me of anything Goldheart says that seems out of the ordinary, okay?" With that Twilight left.
Rarity allowed herself another moment of thought, before continuing to tidy.
After a while, Goldheart returned, a bit out of breath. "Sorry I took so long I...some Griffin was causing trouble at Fluttershy's so I...had to take action..." Goldheart explained to Rarity about Angel's abduction and how after he rescued him, he accidentally asked Fluttershy to join them on their trip to Detrot.
"Oh, well...the more the merrier I suppose." Rarity stated, seeming disappointed. "Sorry anyway..." Suddenly Goldheart's attention was snatched by a certain painting Rarity had up on a nearby wall, it was a landscape water-painted picture of a full moon rising above a lagoon, the moon's image reflected in the lagoon's water.
"Something...is something wrong?" Rarity enquired, made curious by Goldheart's expression.
Goldheart stared balnkly for a moment before shaking his head. "S-sorry it...reminds me of..." Goldheart closed his eyes, then looked back at Rarity, but as he looked into her eyes, he felt that he shouldn't hide anything from her. "...my mother."
"Oh, I'm...I'm sorry, it must bring back some painfull memories." Rarity stated with an apologetic look.
Goldheart shook his head with a weary smile. "No...to be honest I never knew my mother much...only her name and what happened to her...when she came back to Equestria I tried speaking with her but...she didn't recognise me at all..." Goldheart lowered his head. "...that's when I ran off, crying...thinking that I'd never be loved and cared for...I guess...all the years I've been taking care of others...I've...really wanted someone to take care of and love me..." Goldheart had a few tears in his eyes.
"Goldheart..." Rarity trotted over and patted Goldheart's back. "There there, I'm sure you'll find that special somepony who will do just that". Rarity stated with a sincere look.
Goldheart looked back up at Rarity with a warm smile. "M-maybe I...already..." Goldheart gulped, blushing and unable to finish his sentence.
Outside, Twilight was sitting underneath the window. "Aha...I knew having a stake-out would work out..." Twilight made a half-frown. "Good thing Spike isn't here...if he knew Rarity was..." Twilight shook her head before taking off. "There's only one mare I know that has that much to do with the moon."
The next day, Fluttershy is waiting at the station rather nervously, before she spots Goldheart trotting over with a few suitcases on his back, at first Fluttershy can't help but show a gleeful smile...then she noticed Rarity following behind Goldheart.
"Hey look, there's Fluttershy now." Goldheart stated as he waved a hoof over at Fluttershy.
Fluttershy returned the wave, though her enthusiasm seemed to deminish.
Goldheart and Rarity stopped beside Fluttershy.
Goldheart took a few deep breaths. "Phew...Rarity, may I ask what you packed exactly?" He asked, looking back at the luggage on his back.
"Only the essentials." Rarity replied in an upbeat tone.
Goldheart tried to keep a smile. "I-if you say so...I'll go see what time it is..." Goldheart then walked away from Rarity and Fluttershy, leaving the two to themselves.
"So, just out to see the wonderful sights of Detrot?" Rarity asked.
"Um, sure...isn't that why you're going?" Fluttershy replied.
"Why yes, what other reason could there be?" Rarity asked.
"Well...we can enjoy the sights together then." Said Fluttershy.
"Of course, we'll have a splendid time." Rarity replied.
Goldheart returned. "C'mon girls, our train's here." He stated before leading them to the train to Detrot.
On the train, Goldheart puts Rarity's luggage in the compartments above before sitting down near the window, letting out a sigh of relief.
Rarity darted for the spot next to Goldheart, taking her seat, Fluttershy with a frown sat opposite.
As the train started to move, Goldheart looked out the window, while Fluttershy and Rarity gave each-other a quick glare.
"So Goldheart, the guest bed was comfortable enough for you wasn't it?" Rarity enquired, keeping her focus on Fluttershy.
"Y-yes it was and thanks again Rarity." Goldheart asnwered as he turned to her. "Th-though you didn't have to get me a glass of milk before bed you kn-know..." Goldheart added, blushing slightly.
"Oh I always take good care of my special guests." Rarity replied, as Fluttershy pouted.
Fluttershy pondered, before starting. "Goldheart, it must have been aweful being under that big meanie's control, well I should know...it's a good thing I was there to snap you out of it."
Goldheart blushed. "Th-that's right I...forgot to thank you Fluttershy for...saving me that night..." Goldheart leaned over the table, looking into Fluttershy's eyes.
Rarity couldn't help but scowl, but Fluttershy continued. "And I'm really glad I could help you find your true name, Goldheart."
Goldheat leaned in more closer, barely a few inches from Fluttershy. "S-so am I..."
    Rarity's jaw dropped, left speechless.
"Goldheart..." Fluttershy softly uttered as she began moving her head towards his.
Rarity was still frozen in place.
Goldheart however pulled his head back, blushing. "S-sorry I um...got a bit..."
Fluttershy fell back in her seat, her expression turning to a pout, as Rarity sighed with relief.
Goldheart turned to Rarity. "But um...it's true Rarity...Fluttershy...gave me my name two days ago..."
"Oh, well...that was nice of her." Rarity stated as she looked off.
Goldheart looked confused but after a few seconds went back to looking out the window.
Rarity locked eyes with Fluttershy, both giving each other a look of disdain.
In Detrot, the three of them got off the train, Goldheart carrying Rarity's luggage again before they set off down the rather down-troden streets of Detrot for Goldheart's orhpanage.
"Oh dear..." Is all Rarity could utter as she examined her surroundings, wincing at odor eminating from the drains.
Goldheart frowned, looking over at Rarity. "I'm sorry Rarity...for bringing you out here...I-I mean you like nice clean places not...this..." Goldheart stared at the ground as he walked along.
"No no, it's fine, a little rustic, but it has character." Rarity stated, as she put on a more pleasant expression.
Goldheart closed his eyes before raising his head, letting out a sigh. "I wish..." Goldheart opened his eyes again. "I wish I could change this city...more than sewage makes this city filthy..."
Eventually the three arrive at Goldheart's orphanage, the bilding is lage, but covered in moss and overgrown plants, weeds and more.
"Well...this is it..." Goldheart stated as he walked over to the main door, but stopped, backing away a bit with a fearful look. "I've...been away for so long I...don't know if I can-"
"That's your family in there Goldheart, I'm sure they will only be excited about your return." Rarity stated.
"Yeah, how could they feel anything but good feelings about you Goldheart." Fluttershy Added.
Goldheart grew a heartfelt smile. "You're both right...no matter what, they're family...and they'll only be happy to see I'm back."
