Seb looked at the sea for a moment, then tossed a pebble in the water, unable to make it skip. His suitcase was a few steps from where he stood.
"Heeey! Seeeeb!" Kou's voice came from behind.
Seb turned around and noticed Kou, Yu and Nanjo walking over. "Oh, hey guys." He said, not sounding too thrilled to see either one.
Yu looked over to Seb. "Okay. Let's keep it simple: what the heck is going on?"
"Yeah dude, you gotta tell us why you're leaving..." Kou stated, sounding worried.
Seb let out a sigh. "You want the whole story, or just the part that refers to you, Kou?"
Kou sighed before walking over. "Seb...last time, I nearly lost my friends because i didn't know much...this time, I wanna be prepared, tell me everything you know."
Seb looked away for a moment. "Alright...but you're not gonna like it."
"Like we were expecting a happy story..." Nanjo commented.
Yu looked back to Nanjo. "Would you stop it?"
Seb shook his head. "I figured you'd say that. You probably think I'm as much a loser as everyone else thinks."
"Dude, I barely know you, so I don't really have much of an opinion on you." Nanjo replied, trying to sound proffesional.
Yu looked back at Kou. "I think he meant what the squirt here just said."
"...what?" Nanjo asked, seemingly very confused.
"Guys guys, let's just hear what Seb has to say first, okay?" Kou asked politely.
    Nanjo sighed, but said nothing.
Seb sat down, next to his suitcase. "Before I came here, I was the scapegoat of my class. Other students thought I was weird, so what do they do with others who aren't like them? They pick on them. When I started dueling, I thought I'd make it big, but people didn't get my decks. Last year, I was at my worst: lost the few friends I had, grades were slipping...that was before the Radiance."
Yu scratched his chin. "So, they enrolled you or something?"
Seb shook his head. "No. I joined of my own volition. I just wanted respect... for people to see that my crazy ideas could be worth something. For a time, it turned out I was right...until they started throwing me around with their missions."
Kou grew a curious look. "Crazy ideas?"
Seb looked back at his duel disk. "Before the Sacred deck existed, I tried again and again to make a Zodiac deck. I even went and gave the Arcana Force deck a try, since I liked the whole fortune-telling style."
Kou now looked confused. "Well...what's so crazy about that?"
Seb let out a sigh. "No one liked the idea. I kept being asked by others to just give up on it, and to make something that would actually win. Even some of the duelists at the Radiance thought I had a screw loose or something. So, they ended up giving me the worst jobs to get me out of the way...missions I'd end up failing."
Kou walked over and sat down next to Seb. "Heh, and when I kept trying to tweak my deck, using darkworld, archfiends and spellcasters...everyone thought it wouldn't work either..." Kou took out his deck and handed it to Seb. "Here, tkae a look at it now...instead of taking bad criticism as hate...take it as feedback, 'cause sometimes, those people aren't trying to make you feel bad, they just wanna make you get better."
Seb pushed Kou's hand away. "I'm not even done with my story...and you might not like the ending."
Yu shrugged. "So, what's so bad about the ending?"
Seb looked at Kou. "My last mission...was to convert Kou."
Yu raised an eyebrow. "Uh...what do you mean by convert?"
Kou however, didn't seem surprised. "That was pretty obvious...but yeah, what do you mean by 'convert'?"
Seb closed his eyes for a moment. "Both the Darkness and the Radiance want you, Kou, only the Darkness has been a lot more...direct about it. They actually sent one of their best duelists to do the job...and if I hadn't been there when I did, you would've ended up joining them."
"Wait...what?" Kou asked. "What do you mean if you hadn't been there? And 'sent one of their best duelists'?"
Seb let out a heavy sigh, before closing his eyes. "...Kasejima."
Kou was quiet for a moment, before letting out a giggle. "Kasejima-senpai? She's like, the representative of the white dorm, she spends all her free time helping students with homework, tweaking their decks...heck sometimes she even helps out the teachers, what makes you think she's a member of the darkness?"
Seb frowned. "I saw her talk to you, and when I caught her attention, she actually confronted me. No one knew I was from the Radiance, but she did. Hell, she even told me she had some sort of plans for you. And I don't just mean Kou..."
Yu folded his arms. "Okay, give me one good reason to believe what you're saying...and I might not end up roughing you up."
"A man has to defend the chick he has the hots for..." Nanjo commented, giving Yu a wry smile.
Yu let out a frustrated sigh. "I told you to knock it off!"
Seb opened his eyes. "I don't know what she's up to, but I've been seeing her around a lot, lately...and almost everytime I ended up spotting her, Kou, you were busy trying to clean up your friends. Heck, when I saw you pull out that Risen Fiend, I thought that if I could beat it, completing that mission would finally be possible."
Nanjo gave Seb a rather angry look. "So you still wanna turn Senpai?"
Seb let out a sigh. "Not anymore. When Baal attacked me, he drained the influence that the Radiance had on me from me...as well as some of my own darkness. Ever since that duel ended, I've been feeling all empty inside."
"Maybe you're just hungry, why don't we continue this chat back at the juice bar? the milkshakes are pretty filling I hear." Kou asked with a smile.
Yu looked back at Seb. "Believe me, you better take him on the offer. You look like you need it."
Seb shrugged sadly. "Might as well...by tomorrow evening, either I'll be gone from this place, or taken care of by the Radiance."
Kou put an arm around Seb, giving him a comforting smile. "Well if they come, we'll be waiting for them, right guys?"
    "Hell yeah!" Nanjo replied.
Yu looked back at his deck. "Wouldn't mind showing them how their own cards can be used against them. Lightray Gearfried is gonna be sweet!"
Kou looked back at Yu. "But, Yu-kun, to be honest you don't have THAT many light monsters in your deck..."
Yu rolled his eyes. "Your point? I mean, come on. You're not the only guy who has cards. I can always ask around, or check some packs."
Kou gave off a wry smile. "Yu-kun, just stick to your usual deck style...otherwise it looks like you're going one step closer to joining the Radiance..."
    "Ah come on, man...just because you're all Dark-attribute, doesn't mean I can't-"
Seb looked back at Yu. "He's right. Kou's touch might have tainted the card, but it's still with the Radiance. I suggest you hand it over."
Yu took his deck out and pulled Lightray Gearfried out. "And here I was, all stoked about having that card..."
Nanjo looked back at Yu. "Hey, would you rather not use that card? Or use it against Senpai?"
Seb grabbed the card and put it in his coat pocket. "It's better this way. Best for only one guy to take the blame."
Yu cocked an eyebrow. "Huh? Blame for what?"
Seb looked at his cellphone. "I told them about Baal. I bet they'll be expecting a duel against Kou...and me. Meaning they'll probably work the duel in every way to bring both of us down."
"Well as long as we stay together, we can't be beaten right?" Kou asked as he got up. "Now, how about that milkshake?"
Meanwhile, on a speedboat headed for the Academia, the girl who was talking to Seb on the phone earlier is riding it.
"Huh, I still don't understand why I have to go now, like, Seb said he'd hand them back tomorrow at the docks...but, boss says I gotta take him out...mmmmmm, and get that Kou to join us...can't wait to see what he looks like...Seb's probably off on his own somewhere as usual..." The girl looked in the back of the speedboat for a moment. "But, why do I have to use that duel disk?...wierd."
Whoa, what'll happen next? Find out when I give a shit.
