Kou smiled, activating his duel disk. "Well in that case let's do this John-kun."
    "Duel!"
John started off. "I'll go first, draw...I'll set one monster then one card, that ends my turn."
Paige looked at the two of them, putting on her goggles, then pressing a button to activate the built-in camera.
Kou drew his sixth card. "Okay...first I'll summon Archfiend Soldier!" 1900 Attack. "Then activate One for One, sending Mist Archfiend to the grave to special summon Stygian Security from my deck, but he won't be around long, sorry pal, but I'm synching you with Archfiend Soldier to synchro summon...Stygian Sergeants!" 2200 Attack.
John grinned. "Well that was predictable, reverse card open: Torrrential Tribute!" John's face-down card was destroyed while Stygian Sergeants also hit the grave, John looked at his own grave. "I activate my destroyed monster's effect: Sangan!" John looked through his deck. "So I can add...Enchanted Guardian to my hand."
Kou lowered his duel disk. "That ends my turn."
Paige looked back at Kou for a second. "Pff...all talk and no action. Bo-ring..."
John drew. "I'll summon my Enchanted Guardian to the field!" 1000 Attack, Enchanted Guardian looked like a chibi version of Celtic Guardian, expect he was unarmed with blue glowing hands.
The white duelist took a moment to look back at Paige. "Um...Senpai didn't really talk, you know."
Paige glared back at the duelist. "You better shut up, or I'll throw you in a grabage can!"
The white duelist took a step back, keeping his thoughts to himself.
John looked at his hand. "Then I activate the magic card; Sidekick's Errand, I can only activate this card if I control a level four or higher warrior, I select an equip spell card from my deck then add it to my hand...I choose Axe of Despair, however my next draw phase is skipped." John then placed three magic cards onto the field. "I activate these three equip cards; two axe of despair and one Mask of Brutality, equipping them to Enchanted Guardian." 4000 Attack.
Paige smirks. "Going for a one-turn-kill? Hmm...not original, but definitely interesting."
John placed another magic down. "Then finally I activate this equip card; Wasteful Pride, it can only be equipped to a warrior type monster, but the equipped monster cannot be destroyed by card effects, however when I deal battle damage it's destroyed."
Kou chuckled. "And with Enchanted Guardian's effect, it's never destroyed right?" Kou rubbed the back of his neck. "Enchanted Guardian, equip cards equipped to this monster cannot be destroyed by the effects of magic or trap cards...including their own effects."
John closed his eyes. "I see...seems at least you know more than a lot of pros..." John opened his eyes. "However, I expected more, Enchanted Guardian attack him directly! Spellsword Slice!"
The white student looked worried, while Paige gave Kou the thumbs down. "Guess he was just fluff..."
Kou picked a card out of his hand. "Not so fast, I activate the effect of Battle Fader, special summoning him and ending the battle phase." 0 Defence.
John laughed. "Yeah...I should've guessed...after all you didn't look worried at all...I'll set one card and end my turn."
Paige shrugged. "Meh. The longer the duel, the easier the research."
Kou drew. "Draw! First i activate Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy that face-down card."
John frowned as his Bottomless Trap Hole was destroyed.
Kou grinned. "Then I activate the magic card: Worn Avenger, special summoning Archfiend Soldier from the grave but reducing his attack." 1100 Attack. "Then I summon Dark Tinker!" 1000 Attack.
Paige winced. "Worn Avenger, huh... haven't seen that card before..."
Kou's monsters began to glow. "Then I tune, Archfiend Soldier, Battle Fader and Dark Tinker...show those who value their weapons more than their skills true power...synchro summon...come forth, Dark Highlander!" 2800 Attack.
The white duelist looked surprised. "Huh? Senpai? When did you get that card?"
John shook his head. "Still not enough, and my equip cards can't be destroyed by effects..."
Kou laughed. "Nope, spells and traps can't effect them...but monster effects..."
    John's eyes widened. "W-wait...you mean...?"
Paige frowned. "Looks like that guy's not all fluff..." she thought, looking at Dark Highlander.
Kou reached out his hand. "Dark Highlander's effect, once per turn I choose a monster equipped with equip cards, and destroy all those equipped to it, dealing 400 damage for each one...so 1600 damage."
John yelped as Enchanted Guardian's equipment was destroyed, dropping his life points to 2400.
Paige simply focused on what was happening while the white duelist smiled. "Way to go, senpai!"
Kou's smile grew. "Now Dark Highlander, attack Enchanted Guardian, Soul Collecter!" Dark Highlander charged at Enchanting Guardian, slicing him in two with his scythe.
John dropped to one knee, his life points know at 600.
Kou lowered his duel disk. "Heh...since you can't draw next turn with the effect of 'Sidekick's Errand'..."
John got up. "Yeah...I surrender, nothing more I can do, heh-heh."
Paige bit her lip before deactivating her camera. "Tch... didn't get to see even a quarter of his deck. So much for research..."
The white duelist rushed over to Kou. "Senpai, that was awesome!"
Suddenly the four noticed the huge crowd that had formed, along with a few cameras.
Kou rubbed the back of his head. "Y-Yeah, sorry I gotta go before one of those reporters tries to interview me again..." With that Kou ran off.
Paige let out an irritated sigh. "I hate crowds." She said to herself before turning away.
Jun walked over to Paige. "I saw it...looks like Naruki, Kou is more than your average duelist after all." Jun looked back at the white duelist. "Also weren't you planning on getting information out of that kid over there?"
Paige removed her goggles. "Puh-lease...the squirt was just a first-year shrimp. Besides, I need more solid intel. All I got so far is that he's a Fiend duelist who runs synchros. Heck, you can buy his packs and you'll already know that!"
Jun rubbed his chin. "Hmmmm, tell you what, there's one shrimp in ADAD that's been in their group since the beginning, Butterscotch, Etsuko...I mean, she shouldn't be too much for you right?" Jun asked as he walked off.
"Ugh. I hate butterscotch." Paige said, sticking her tongue out. "Right, time to visit little-miss-cavities."
Meanwhile, Kary walked outside of the dorm. "Okay...I'm outside, now where is...huh?"
Kary was surprised to see one of the juice bar tables was covered with a fancy table-dress. "What is going on?" she wondered as she approached the table.
The table was covered with a fancy cloth, as well as two rows of silverware, as if whoever set it up was making a tea party for four. In the middle of the table was a tray filled with pastries.
"This is...getting stranger by the second." Kary thought, her eyes locking on to the two people sitting at the table.
One was a thin girl with very pale, almost overbleached hair with grey eyes, her white dorm outfit looking almost too big on her.
On the other side was a young man, probably a year older than Kary, dressed in the equivalent of the black dorm's outfit, only with a much fancier cloth.
The young man turned to face Kary, his dark-brown hair in a neat cut, his eyes almost purple looking at her from head to foot. "Ah, another guest, I see."
Kary frowned. "Um...do I know you two?"
The girl slowly took a sip from her cup, though it was hard to tell if she was drinking at all. "Perhaps you don't, but I assure you that I know you. You have received my invitation, yes?"
Kary looked back at the young man. "Y-you're..."
The young man rose from his chair. "I forgot my manners. My name is Tristan Hewitt. I was at the 'Cards for Cancer' tournament you participated in. If I remember correctly, you beat me on the first round."
Kary folded her arms. "So, you set this all up to duel me? And who is your friend?"
"All in due times. Yes, I wanted to duel you. As for her..." Tristan answered, turning to look at the frail girl for a moment, then activates a duel disk that looks like if the casing had been gold-plated. "I will tell you who she is... only if you win."
Kary looked down at her own disk. "I don't know why I bother, but this is a tournament, so I have to duel." she answered, activating it.
    "Duel!"
Tristan drew his cards. "Ladies first." he said, adding a polite gesture to the words.
Kary looked mildly surprised. "I see...well, alright." She replied. "I summon Amores of Prophecy in attack mode!" 600 Attack "And with her effect, I reveal 'Grimoire Book of Spells' to activate her effect. With it, I summon Strength of Prophecy in attack mode." 1500 Attack.
Suddenly Kou ran past the two, but after realising what he just saw, re-traced his steps. "Whoa, you starting your first tournament too Kary.?"
Kary turned to look at Kou. "Oh, Senpai? W-well, I suppose I am."
Kou looked back at Tristan. "S'up dude?"
Tristan looked at Kou for a moment. "Ah, perfect. I was hoping we would get another visitor. Please, have a seat."
Kary let out a sigh. "May we continue this duel?"
Tristan gave a polite nod. "Please do."
Kou sat down to the girl's left.
Kary looked back at her hand. "I place two cards face-down and end my turn."
Kou tried to get a good look a tthe girl's face. "Hmmmm, never seen you around the academia before, I'm Naruki, Kou, nice to meet you." Kou stated, holding out his hand for a hand shake.
Tristan drew his card. "Then I draw...and I play Madolche Magileine in attack mode." 1400 Attack.
Kou looked back at the duel. " A Madolche deck eh?" Kou grinned. "Kinda the opposite of most decks, keeping their cards OUT of the grave."
Kary examined the witch. "Um...a-are you sure you should be dueling me? I'm sure Etsuko-chan would-"
Kou looked back at the girl. "Um...you okay?" He asked, once again tryign to look at her face. "...are you asleep?"
"Nonsense. For now, I activate Magileine's effect. When she is summoned, I can add one Madolche from my deck to my hand." Tristan added. "So, I will add Madolche Mewfeuille."
The frail girl slowly turned her head towards Kou, her grey eyes blinking slowly. "Hello." She simply answered.
Kou gave her a warm smile. "S'up?"
Tristan continued. "If you please, a change in scenery. I play the field spell Madolche Chateau." 1900 Attack. Tristan looked at the field. "Now, Magileine, attack Amores! Magical Sweep Spell!"
Kary looked at the field. "I activate my face-down...Book of Eclipse!"
Tristan smiled as all monsters on the field were forced to face-down defense. "As clever as I remember. I place two cards face-down and end my turn."
Kary drew her card. "My turn. I flip my two creatures back to attack mode, and play Spellbook Magician of Prophecy in attack mode." 500 Attack.
Tristan shrugged. "A bit too hasty, perhaps? You do know that your spell forced Magileine back into attack mode, and that you allowed me to draw one card."
Kary let out a sigh. "Perhaps, but now, I activate Magician's effect, allowing me to take Goethe Book of Spells from my deck to my hand." Kary looked back at her hand. "I activate Grimoire Book of Spells from my hand, to search for Spellbook of Power and add it to my hand."
Tristan cocked an eyebrow. "I suppose you wish to play the Empress, correct?"
The frail girl looked back at Kou. "Are you here for the tea party as well?" she answered, her voice sounding distant, as if her thoughts weren't focused.
Kou looked a tad confused. "Tea party?" Kou asked. "Also I'm so sure you're half-asleep right now..."
Kary looked back at her hand while Tristan sighed. "Then I suppose you will use Strength now?"
Kary looked uneasy. "How do you know all this?"
Tristan looked at Kary with a smile. "Do continue."
Kary looked at the field. "I activate Strength's ability. I reshuffle Spellbook of Secrets and increase her attack by 500, and her level by 1. Strength of Prophecy, attack Madolche Magileine! Axe of Strength!"
    Tristan grinned. "I activate...Madolche Waltz!"
Though Magileine was destroyed and Tristan's LP dropped to 3900, Kary noticed her own LP drop to 3700. "Wh-what?"
Kou put his head in his hands. "Madolche Waltz, every time you attack or he atacks, you take 300 damage Kary-chan."
Tristan nodded. Quite right, and with my Chateau's effect, rather than shuffle my Magileine back to my deck, she returns to my hand."
Kary sighed. "I end my turn."
Kou turned back to the frail girl, keeping his smile. "So, what's your name?"
The frail girl looked back at her cup, dodging the question. "Can I have more tea?"
Tristan drew his card. "I summon Madolche Mewfeuille in attack mode." 500 Attack. "Also, thanks to its ability, I can summon Madolche Chouxvalier in attack mode." 1700 Attack.
Kou kept his smile, however his thoughts were quite the opposite. "This girl...I...can't explain this strange feeling I'm getting..." Kou looked back at his deck, feeling Baal's words, he nodded before taking him out.
Tristan looked at the field. "Thanks to the Chateau, my Madolche creatures gain 500 attack. So, Madolche Chouxvalier, attack Magician!"
Kou held Baal out to the girl as Baal himself glowed. "Yes...this girl has the same energy residing within her as Sebastien Busque did...only much weaker by comparison..."
Kary let out a sigh. "I activate...Negate Attack!"
Kou looked back at Tristain. "So you think...he...?"
Tristan thought for a moment. "I suppose I can let it pass. I end my turn."
Baal glowed again. "No...but that isn't to say he doesn't follow the Radiance or Darkness..."
Kary looked at the card she just drew. "I didn't draw the Empress, but I think I can turn this around..." She thought to herself before looking at Tristan. "I play the spell card Taunhauser Gate!"
Baal glowed again, but longer this time. "...this girl, she's almost become a full follower of the light, empty...but ready to follow...thankfully I can still save her given the chance..."
Kary looked at her monsters. "Thanks to this, I select Amores and my Magician. Thanks to the gate, both of these spellcasters now have a level equal to the addition of both levels." Levels: 5. "So now, I overlay my Magician and Amores to Exceed Summon 'Empress of Prophecy' in attack mode!" 2000 Attack.
Kou looked worried. "She wouldn't end up like Seb-kun then...?"
Baal's voice echoed through Kou's mind. "No, Sebastien was almost intoxicated by it, to the point that even if the Radiance found him they'd destroy him, he was past the level of a Serene...this girl however is only a few levels before a Serene...just summon me, and I shall save her..."
Tristan smiled. "She is marvelous, don't you think? Beauty and power, with the wisdom to know when to wield it. Quite like yourself, I must say."
Kou kept his worried look as he looked back at the girl. "And...any bad side-effects...?"
"No, she won't even go into a coma, for her it'll be like waking from a quick nap." Baal reasssured Kou.
Kary looked surprised, even showed some signs of blushing as his comment. "L-let's stay with the duel, shall we? I activate Empress' ability. I remove one Exceed material - my Magician - and shuffle my deck, then, I reveal the top five cards of my deck, and for every Spellbook in it, I destroy one of your cards."
Tristan looked at Kary as she drew her five cards, seeming eager for something to happen.
Kou looked over at Trsitan. "...I can't seem to get that guy...but...somethign tells me this tea party doesn't have poison..." Kou stepped back, activating his duel disk.
Baal spoke one more time to Kou. "Kou...listen, there is a new way I can save them...it may even be safer...for you though I'm not sure..."
Kary shuffled her deck, then drew each card, one by one. Looking at them for a moment, she turned her hand to show them at Tristan: Spellbook of Secrets, Spellbook Library of the Crescent, High Priestess of Prophecy, Hanged Man of Prophecy, and...Risen Fiend Orobas."
Tristan looked surprised at the draw, until he noticed Orobas. "This is...what is that card?"
Kou nodded. "I'm willing to try it...go ahead...shed some light here, First Risen Fiend: Baal."
Baal arose, before standing above and between Kou and the frail girl. "...mind...share..."
Tristan took a moment to try to make sense of seeing Orobas. "What is..." He tried to ask, before turning his head to look towards Kou. "What are you doing?"
Kary snapped her fingers. "You should worry more about the duel. Thanks to her effect, Empress can now destroy Madolche Chateau and your face-down card!"
For Kary and Tristan, the event before them was merely seconds, inside however, the event was much longer.
Maya's mind seemed like a labyrinth of corridors, basked in light. It seemed almost all corners of her spirit were basking in it. The only part that was left behind was a small corner, where noises were coming from, as if someone was crying.
Kou's spirit form was exactly the same looking as his physcial form, deck and duel disk and all, the only thing missing is Baal. "Ngh...waaay too bright in here..." Kou commented before drawing from his deck. "I summon Obsidian Dragon!" Obsidian Dragon appeared, his dark fumes making the light dissipate. After being able to see his way, Kou walked through the corridor, following the sounds of crying. "Hello?" He asked, Obsidian Dragon following him. "Anyone there?"
The crying stopped for a moment before a child's voice was heard. "Um...hello?"
Kou smiled, having finally heard something. "Yo, you okay?"
The child sniffled before her voice was heard again. "Wh-who are you, mister?" She asked. "How did you get here?"
Obsidian Dragon stepped forward to reveal what the child looked like.
The child looked around seven, with light brown hair and eyes. She was dressed in a hospital's patient garment and looked frightened at the sight of Obsidian Dragon.
Kou squatted down to the child's level, giving her a warm smile. "It's okay, Obsidian Dragon here won't hurt you, in fact he wants to help you..." Kou held out his hand to the child. "I'm Naruki, Kou. A duelist...given the power to save people and I'm here to save you." Kou stated, trying to make the young girl feel safe.
The young girl nervously got up, revealing a pair of heavy braces around the girl's legs. "D-did...did Paige and Kary send you? Th-they promised they would protect me..."
Kou tried not to notice the braces. "No but, I know those two...I even saved Kary-chan once...so take my hand, I promise I'll protect you..." Kou thoguht for a moment, putting a few memories together. "...are you...Maya-chan?"
The young girl nodded. "Uh-huh." She replied, but didn't reach out. "Y-you know Kary?" She asked. "Did she...did she finally make that deck she wanted? The...um...'propsy'?"
Kou chuckled "Yes, and it's 'prophecy' Maya-chan."
Maya's eyes lit up. "She did it?" She asked, hope showing on her face. "Really really? I wanna see!"
Kou laughed, reaching his hand out further. "Then take my hand Maya-chan...I'll take you back to Kary-chan and Paige." Kou promised, a warm look covering his face.
"Yay!" Maya shouted, reaching out to touch Kou's hand. At the touch of Kou's and her hand, the braces around Maya's legs started to break, all the light in the labyrinth started to fade, eventually Kou brought the young Maya into his arms, the braces breaking completely as the two blacked out.
Back outside, Baal dissipated as Kou collapsed to the floor.
Kary gasped as she saw Kou drop. "Senpai!"
Tristan turned back to the table, only to see the frail girl slowly get up, stretch, then look around.
"Huh?" Was all the frail girl said before her eyes, which now started to return to their previous color, locked on Kary.
Kary could hear Orobas' deep voice ringing in her mind. "It seems that my Lord has aided his master in freeing this young one." Orobas commented. "I could sense the unholy Radiance from here...but now, it is dissipating."
Tristan looked back at Kary. "Time out!" He shouted, before rushing over to the girl. "Maya, are you alright?"
Kary let out a startled gasp. "M-Ma...Maya?!?" She tried to mutter.
Maya let out a sigh of relief before nodding. "I knew you'd come for me, Kary." She said, almost in tears. "I just knew it..."
While Kary ran towards Maya to embrace her, Tristan knelt next to Kou. "Hey...hey, wake up!"
Kou tried to get up, but like his hands were covered in butter he slipped and fell back to the floor. "...too...tired..."
Tristan let out a sigh before grabbing Kou, trying to lift him up onto one of the chairs. "Come on!" Tristan said. "It's rude to fall asleep at a tea party!"
Kou's eyes were half open, though he looked more fatigued than tired. "...yeah well, you try entering someone's mind and staying concious, heh-heh..."
Tristan let out a sigh of relief. "Well, at least try and eat something while Kary finishes this duel. After that, we can talk a bit more...err...once you are a bit more awake."
Kary broke her embrace with Maya for a moment, but it was Maya that spoke first. "Kou-kun said you made that deck you promised." She spoke, looking down at Kary's duel disk. "Can I watch?"
Kary tried to smile through her tears of joy. "S-sure thing." She answered.
Tristan looked back at the two girls. "Ah, splendid." He commented. "As I remember, it is still your turn, Kary-chan."
Maya walked back to her seat while Tristan and Kary returned to their dueling zones.
Kary smiled at Maya before continuing. "Thanks to Empress' ability, she gains 300 attack for each Exceed Material on it. And with 'Spellbook of Power', she gains a thousand more!" 3300 Attack. "Empress, attack Chouxvalier! Imperial Blaze!"
Tristan braced himself as his life points dropped to 2300, while Kary's dropped to 3400.
"Next, Strength will attack Madolche Mewfeuille!" Kary stated.
Kary's LP dropped again, stopping at 3100, while Tristan's LP dropped to 1300.
Tristan looked at the field. "Very impressive." he added, wiping dust from his shoulders with his hands. "I guess it's my turn, then."
Maya looked back at Kou. "Um...are you alright?" She replied a bit meekly. "You look a little pale."
Kou managed to sit up, though he was very laid back. "Yeah...just...first time I've done it like that..." Kou laughed at himself.
Kary placed a card face-down. "Now, it's your turn."
Tristan drew his card. "Then I will summon Madolche Messengelato in attack mode." 1400 Attack.
Kary revealed her face-down. "Not quite. I activate Compulsory Escape Device! Now, Strength and Messengelato return to our decks!"
Tristan looked back at his hand. "I would yield, but it would not be fair for the spectators. So, I end my turn."
Kary drew her card. "Here goes!" She shouted. "I summon Charioteer of Prophecy in attack mode!" 1800 Attack. "Charioteer, finish this chapter! Prophetic Charge!"
Tristan braced himself as the horseman's sword hit, his LP dropping to 0.
Maya jumped out of her seat. "Yay, Kary!" She shouted, clapping.
Kary wiped a tear as Tristan looked at her, then at the others. "Now then. I did make this tea party for four, so why not enjoy the afternoon together?"
Kary looked back at the table. "Let's just hope Kou didn't eat all the pastries..." She replied jokingly before taking a seat.
Well now we have two Risen Fiends talking...
